Journaling With Augmented Reality
Journal augmented reality for education is a device invented by Tony Buzan that merges the computer and the Internet. The device allows students to use the computer to take notes and draw on sketches, thus combining the two into one medium. The main idea behind this new technology is to provide students with an easy and fun way of taking notes while being in class. It teaches students how to be more involved in the coursework, thus making them better learners and also making them be able to express themselves more effectively.
Education is a big issue these days and one of the best ways to reach out to your students is by teaching them how to use technology. You cannot simply teach them facts or figures; rather you should encourage them to think for themselves and generate their own ideas, theories and even experiments, and this is where augmented reality can come in handy. The more the teacher interacts with his or her students through this medium the better they will be able to understand things, solve problems, and come up with fresh and relevant ideas. Journal augmented reality for education is just such a way of encouraging students to use digital tools to learn.
This is not as easy as it sounds. It has taken several years for scientists and researchers to create a piece of software specifically for the purpose of helping students come up with interesting ideas and even experiment with them. However, last year, Tony Buzan used his expertise in the field of education to launch the first school program using augmented reality. What he did was combine the Internet with note taking software so that students could record online lectures and then attach digital tools that help them interact with the lecturer through the Internet.
In doing so, he hoped to bring more clarity and efficiency into the learning process. What he discovered was that students are more engaged and willing to learn when given a chance to use digital tools in addition to their written notes. This enabled him to introduce journal augmented reality to the class and see what a difference it made. The key to this was keeping everything in the classroom as simple as possible. Instead of presenting complicated mathematics equations and other types of material, he wanted to present the basics of math so that students could follow along easily.
The key to making this work was to encourage students to be creative. One of the best ways to do this is to get them writing in a journal. He realized that by writing in a pen and paper he was limiting their ability to creatively use the digital tools. He also wanted them to think outside the box. After all, most students are used to writing in books.
For example, many students are used to writing in books about science or other topics. They can easily become distracted by ideas that do not interest them. When writing in a journal they can easily list their interests without losing their main topic. He also stressed that students should brainstorm and look for new ideas before writing their essays or reports. This will help them to be more creative.
As he saw it, the first journal he designed helped to inspire more students to use digital tools when writing. This increased his knowledge of augmented reality and how it could benefit education. In turn, he began to use the same journal for teaching and for himself. Today, he uses his iPad to take notes and record lessons. He still wants to help more students use the journal and does his best to continue to improve the technology.
Journaling in the same way as a digital recorder helps students remember important events in their lives. It is also a great way to pass down ideas to other people who might need it. Today, more teachers are realizing the benefits of journaling and incorporating it into the lesson plan. They are doing this to not only capture important information but to also ensure that students use it effectively. They also want to ensure that the ideas do not fall through the cracks.
